The Origin of My Branding

Radiant orchid - the orign of my branding

The Colour

PANTONE© 18-224 TCX also known as Radiant Orchid was the colour of the year in 2014.

Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health.

That all sounded good enough for me, expressive and creative were the right buzz words for my business. The purple was quite close to my existing branding so I decided to tweak my colours slightly to get myself right on trend!

My freelance web design business is really busy and I do quite a lot of networking.  So I need business cards as well as professional stationery.   The time was right to commission a new logo.

The Logo

My company is in my own name so obviously I needed to include that but I wanted to have an emblem, something to make it unique rather than just a standard text logo.  I have done a lot of different freelance design work but logo design is not really my thing so I decided to outsource.  I love horizontal borders and knew I wanted to have one in between the emblem and the name.  I also knew I wanted to have two font sizes included.  So I was able to produce a pretty good brief – any freelance designer will tell you that a solid plan results in excellent work and very happy clients.  It paid off for me because my logo only needed one small revision and it was ready to go.  I love the two-tone of the emblem and the text is clean and clear.

I use it in white with the purple background for my business cards and some stationery.  The contact details are on the back.  I wanted to keep the card front very clean and contemporary.

The Website

Last but by no means least I tweaked the website design and updated buttons, graphics and social media icons.  I made sure all of the links matched and it was good to go.

3 years on I still love it because it is an easy colour.  I would always encourage anyone to employ a professional freelance logo designer, it is worth it.
