Children's author home page design

A Brand new website design for a children’s author. A wonderful project with beautiful illustrations to work with, really fun and enjoyable to do.

The lead character in the story, Max, is based on Kristina’s son Samuel, who was born with achondroplasia, the most common form of dwarfism. When Samuel was born, Kristina quickly  learnt that his biggest challenge in life would be other people’s perceptions of him based on presentations of dwarfism in the media and culture. As a result of this she decided to write a children’s story that would help to educate his peers about his condition and provide a positive role model for children born with rare conditions.

The Challenge

This is a wonderfully illustrated story that encourages discussion about how everyone is born different.  Kristina asked me to design and build a website to bring the story to life on the web, a website totally tailored to the product with a showcase home page. The site needed to be immediately engaging with strong calls to action. The beautiful illustrations will engage the visitor straight away and give them a real feel for what Strong and Mighty Max is all about.

The learn page needed to be key for downloads, videos needed to be prominent all to allow the visitor to interact and remain interested.

The Solution

Gorgeous illustrations are showcased in a rotating gallery on the home page to bring the books to life and engage the target audience – children, parents and teachers.  The original font from the book has been used for continuity of branding and I created a logo based on the book cover.  The call to action ‘buy the books now’ buttons are clickable book covers.

This is a completely custom web design built on WordPress for easy management and editing, Kristina was adding new blog posts in minutes.  The Learn page includes links to downloadable PDF files and the visitor has to submit their email address, name and role before they can download; this allows Kristina to keep in touch with her visitors and understand who her most interactive visitors are.  Videos feature throughout all pages and in the media section, short videos that are easy to watch.  The blog is regularly updated and Kristina shares articles to social media channels to increase engagement and drive traffic back to her website.  Visitors are able to purchase the books with PayPal easy checkout or via links to Amazon.  An embedded facebook feed features on most pages.

This looks great! …. I like what I see. Thank you!

It was really good to work with Tracey Rickard on my website. She listened to what I wanted to achieve and produced an excellent user friendly design for the site. Her customer service was excellent, guiding me through the processes that then enabled me to update the website myself. I am very pleased with the finished product and would highly recommend her.
