Nicole has enjoyed practicing meditation and yoga for many years and has a real love of crystals. Every mala is hand made by Nicole with gemstones and sandalwood beads. Each one is completely unique, hand tied and blessed with a positive affirmation. Nicole’s aim is to inspire peace within knowing how hectic and stressful life can be. Unexpected twists and turns can throw us off balance physically, mentally and emotionally and Nicole feels that if the mala beads are used for even just 10 minutes a day, then that is a little bit of peace added into someone’s day to help shine out some positive energy!
The Challenge
The new website is to showcase The Mala Den products and enable visitors to buy online. The website must be professional in appearance but also visually striking to make an impact on site visitors.
The design should have an earthy, rustic feel with hand-crafted elements. It should not be flat but have texture and layers. It will have an uplifting and holistic atmosphere; a website that’s welcoming and peaceful. A quirky design that does not have a uniform layout. The design should focus on yoga, crystals and nature and have an appeal to people along that line; plus it should appeal to people who wish to buy a necklace to wear anytime.
New branding has been created by the Happy Designer. The website colours will blend to match the logo and the bead colours should be used throughout the design.
The Solution
This is certainly web design that is earthy and rustic with a hand crafted atmostphere. I created paint brush backgrounds and ancient aged paper effects in Photoshop. Hand drawn social media buttons, shopping cart, email and phone icons complete the effect. Buttons and links are coloured to exactly match the beads in the logo, each and every colour is used. For the headings I used the same font as was used to created the logo, cutely named ‘A Little Pot’. The main body font is Cabin, a contemporary sans-serif font that is easy to read.
This is a webshop, a full eCommerce online shop with easy to manage products, shopping cart and checkout. The online store is created with WooCommerce and WordPress. The website also includes a blog with news and events and testimonials. Nicole can easily update the blog and all of her pages whenever she needs to. The home page is a showcase for the beautiful products and the Instagram feed at the bottom of the page shows off the latest trends in Malas. This website is extremely easy to navigate and the products are grouped into categories making the shop easy to use no matter what the device.
