I love this type of design as there are no boundaries when it comes to creativity and they are so much fun to do!
Tanya is an author of children’s books, she has just launched her first series, Victoria Mouse. These are super stories that are beautifully illustrated by the Happy Designer. Tanya created Victoria Mouse to introduce children to different areas of London, suggesting possible days out and encouraging conversations to follow. Victoria has a heart of gold, but always manages to get herself into a spot of bother.
Brought up in Hertfordshire, Tanya currently lives in South East London with her two rescue dogs, Chilli and Lucy, who provide her with much of the inspiration for the doggie stories, soon to come. When they aren’t keeping her busy playing ball or stroking their tummies, they are great listeners when Tanya reads her stories out loud.
The current books are aimed at children between ages 3 & 8. The Victoria Mouse books appeal more to London based parents and tourists. The Chilli and Pickles stories have a broader market, but the same age range. The purpose of the new website is to generate sales and to promote the books.
Tanya is very keen that the web design will include a book case to display all of her books, featuring the books and their covers and clicking through to a sales page for each individual book. The bookcase must adapt smoothly for all screen sizes. A text based logo will also be required. This will be an eCommerce website with full online shop functionality.
This is a brand new e-commerce website with shopping cart and checkout. It is built on WordPress for easy uploading and product management. WooCommerce provides all of the online shopping functionality.
The beautiful illustrations by Happy Designer bring this site to life and I designed a colour scheme in soft pastels including customised clickable elements, icons (like the shopping cart) and social media buttons to match. The yellow candy stripe background adds some interest for larger screens. The books sit on the shelves and I overlaid the animal illustrations, characters from the books. Victoria Mouse sits high above the logo on the home page; the logo itself was created with the 5th Grader font and I have used it throughout for headings and other key elements. The little social media vignettes on the home page are one of my favourite elements and link through to social media pages. Even the newsletter signup box has a little portrait of Victoria Mouse through the window.
Naturally the website displays beautifully on all devices and is Google friendly.
